How to fix “because safari can’t establish a secure connection” and “Your connection is not private” errors with SSL

Today I migrated a website, and all went well until after issueing the new SSL certificate. I kept getting “Your connection is not private” errors in the browser.

There are lots of blog posts written about how to address the “because safari can’t establish a secure connection” and “Your connection is not private” SSL errors. Unfortunately, none of them fixed the issue for me.

Here’s the simple trick that fixed all these issues for me: Change your computer’s DNS provider. I had mine set to Cloudflare, and simply switching back to the default fixed these SSL issues for me! Here’s the quick “how-to” for Mac users. If you are already using the default dns, you could switch to “8.8.8.8” for Google dns or “1.1.1.1” for Cloudflare dns.

I hope this helps!
