How to Add a Link to the 3.4 “Customize” Page in Your WordPress Admin Panel or Dashboard

The new “Customize” feature in 3.4 is killer for theme developers. What isn’t clear is why the use of the feature doesn’t automatically add a menu item in the WordPress dashboard/admin menu.

To add the menu, copy-and-paste the following chunk of php code into your theme’s functions.php file.

// This adds a link to the "Customize" page in the WP admin under "Appearance"
add_action('admin_menu', 'my_add_customize_link');
function my_add_customize_link() {
  add_theme_page(
    'Customize the Theme',
    'Customize the Theme',
    'administrator',
    'customize.php'
  );
}

Pretty nifty, eh?
